2019 Craft-olusions

Wednesday, 2. January 2019 11:17

So last year I set some goals and left them and never really returned to this blog… 2019 might be different, but I’m not going to promise anything…

So what did I set out to do?

  • 4 adult garments including knitting up my Combo Spin
    • Well strangely enough I finished 4 adult garments, but the combo spin project is still a WIP!
  • At least 6 months of The Fourth Desert Vista Dyeworks Sock Challenge (I made 3 months in 2017)
    • Tick! I made it to 12 months FTW!
  • Finish my Leaves of Grass
    • Sadly in the frogpond after the cats attacked the start of it. Might cast on again sometime…
  • Spin the Bin
    • So close! 2 bumps to go!
  • Get to Spendigo!
    • Oh yes and I had the bestest time, even if that is the wine talking and I do need to get going on my Schlongalong project!

So for 2019…

  • End the year with less than 15 WsIP- I have 19 on the needles at the start of the year (plus my January socks!) and might need to head to the frog pond…
  • Spin 6 bumps of fibre
  • Knit one fingering weight sweater for me
  • Knit two other sweaters
  • 3 projects for other people
  • Knit 6 pairs of socks
  • Get to Bendigo (flights are booked so that is a go!)
  • Blog more frequently with progress…

I also made a collage of projects I’d like to complete…

2018 Craft-olusions

Monday, 1. January 2018 12:04

So twelve months ago I set some goals. For the last couple of months I had this feeling I had failed miserable, but in essence I achieved more than I thought I had!

I wanted to produce 6 garments, and if I include the 4 baby Milo vests I knit then I did achieve that goal. Of course that wasn’t the premise of the goal, but I still finished a cardigan in fingering weight for me and a sweater. And I have the sleeves left on another sweater so I think I can possibly say I got half way!

Next up was 12 bumps of fibre. I am really proud of my Tour de Fleece efforts and that I spun 10 bumps in 3 weeks as a combo spin. I exceeded this goal, but the funny thing is I didn’t finish Spin the Bin! This year I will combine a combo spin and Spin the Bin I think!

12 self-striping items didn’t happen. Again I finished 7 items and have two pairs of self-striping socks on the needles. Likewise Camp Loopy- I finished the first month, finished the second month in the third month and never started the project for the third month!

I wanted to try four new sock patterns. I did two and have another on the needles, so almost! Sadly, I did not get to Spendigo as I had my final residential school (and a distinct lack of finances!) but there is always 2018…

So the goals for this year…

  • 4 adult garments including knitting up my Combo Spin
  • At least 6 months of The Fourth Desert Vista Dyeworks Sock Challenge (I made 3 months in 2017)
  • Finish my Leaves of Grass
  • Spin the Bin
  • Get to Spendigo!

Perhaps not as much of a goal list as last year, however I have a grad year to complete!

*and the title of the post recognises that these are resolutions, but may be illusions too!

2017 Craft-olutions

Friday, 30. December 2016 19:05

So 12 months ago I made some craftolutions. Some have been met, others not so much! I am almost finished my twelfth self-0striping project for the year and I knit a baable hat. I did finish or frog quite a few WIPs and my stash didn’t grow that much (that I am willing to admit, anyway!). I decided early in the year that there are so many wonderful podcasts out there that me adding to them was not really adding anything new.

For 2017 I want to focus more on garments. This year I knit two sweaters- well one still needs buttons and I have three WIPs- all of which were WIPs at the start of the year too… I also want to get back into spinning more regularly. So I have decided to try and keep goals simple…

  • 6 garments (including the three on the needles!)
  • 12 bumps of fibre (might even sign up for Spin the Bin I think!)
  • 12 self-striping items- but look at more worsted weight items perhaps!
  • Camp Loopy
  • 4 new sock patterns. I feel a lot of the time I am knitting vanilla Fish Lips Kiss Heels or Mystik Spirals and want to branch out- I have heaps of ideas in my queue!
  • Attend Spendigo and go with a list of plans and purchase for plans!

I am fortunate in I have a job where I sit with patients and some of the time I can sit and knit. This works so well as sometimes patients get anxious when you sit there and look at them and doing something can put them at ease, plus it gives us something else to talk about! The plan is in 2018 to be working as a RN and I will not be in the position to sit and knit at work.
